Yes! Self published last year because I wasn't waiting. Doing the same thing in 2024 for the same reason, only with far more knowledge and understanding of how to market myself.
Begged and pleaded for years for a book deal. Got close a few times, but always ended up rejected. Finally said fuck it, published my own memoir in collaboration with my artistic partner who is a designer--sold thousands of copies, deepened my relationship with my audience, and was able to finally realize my lifelong dream of being an author. I’ll never wait for permission again. Most of the ones granting permission are fuckin nerds, anyway. 😝

This has been my mantra for many years. Not sure it’s made me any more “successful” but I’ve made great friends and feel very supported.
