...the real social media is our time and how we spend it...the more we own our time the better a time we might have...great story man...always nice to be brought around again to someone you haven't thought of in a second...

I, too, had someone find me on the wide-open-internet yesterday. A journalist who followed my career when I got started 20 years ago. She just thought of me, googled me and wrote to me on my website! How about that?!

I left the socials about a month ago. I really hope more people start to leave en masse, for the simple reason of wanting more friends to play with in the streets. LOL.

What a delight to just THINK of someone, and be able to find them on the open web, without having to sign up or log into a social media platform! That is so great.

I absolutely agree with you, Seth, and pretty much of most of what everybody else here has also written. Owning your own stuff on your own website is the way to go. Even better is to get out there and meet with people in real life, real time. Thank you again for your great work in leading the way and providing people with other opportunities to relieve themselves from the burdens of platforms.

Thinking of leaving social media for the "open Internet" makes me think of leaving suburbia for off-grid living, which sounds amazing. Only I don't want to actually live off-grid; I value the convenience of sewage and power systems too much. I just want the, I guess, ambiance of living in the middle of nowhere. Deleting social media from my phone has much the same effect -- I haven't deleted any accounts, it's there if I want it, but it's startling how little I care about what I'm "missing" when I have to go to more effort to see it all.

Oh yes… I love the woods. But I love living on Main St and I can walk to anything I need!

I’ve just deleted IG off my phone, I don’t miss it, it feels like I got a big bit of my life back. Here’s to meeting real people in the real world again xxx

I quit social media almost two years ago because not only did it negatively affect how I thought of myself as an artist but also as a parent. And recently, a friend of mine and I started to meet up online for "art night" where we create art based on a prompt we have chosen that week. It's been more life-giving and rejuvinating than any time wasted on Instagram searching for "inspiration" .

I only started using social media during the pandemic. I wonder when I'll go back to that. Maybe soon. Maybe never. It still feels reasonably fresh to me. But I always expect change...

The only constant is change!
