Hope you’re feeling better soon, Seth. Some winter illnesses out there seem particularly nasty this season.

Maybe the solution’s a process thing? Like, instead of doing stuff we hate in exchange for a “results lottery ticket,” we could just have the kind of experiences we want. For example, replying to comments not because we want something from them, but because we want the practice of thinking deeply about the ideas they shared, and have a good conversation about them. Reaching out to collaborate not to do some compromising thing to broaden our audience reach, but because what we learn through collaboration makes us better artists, regardless of the return. And marketing our stuff in a way that’s fun for us for crying out loud.

I think you’re right in that I don’t see it as marketing, really—more like experiences I find more fulfilling than the day job if I do them right.
