🤩 thanks for sharing! Following some other advice you shared from a friend, I sent a message to that YouTuber and they were really nice 🥰

Also a big yes to having a visible email. We have always done this and I can't imagine not doing so. I often wonder about a visible phone number though. It's not something we particularly want to do, but picking up the phone to make a quick inquiry is apparently something people do.

YEssss the phone is tricky! I got a "burner" number via Zoom for that.

Another solid set of pointers, Seth. Gracias!

I also think that the youth have got this. As my kids and their friends tackle the next stage of their lives, I’ve noticed that they are more willing to take risks, more agile and are comfortable putting themselves out there.

I get into lots of conversations at the library and the grocery store - waiting in line before the holidays to pick up a meat order I even handed out a business card to someone, very naturally, just to stay connected. All I did was ask "What are you making for Christmas Dinner?" and then conversation and connection ensues! People are so game for this here in MA compared to NJ.

I just had this email problem…I saw a local videographers work that I liked, and I need a camera person for a video I am directing, and I spent a half hour trying to find a way to contact her and never could. Good reminder to check and make sure it’s really clear on my own website.

I skipped the self checkout today actually, and there was small talk with the lady in front and it was great!

Being the person behind the counter is an even greater option! I work at a library so I get plenty of day-to-day interactions with the public

I will definitely try skipping the self-checkout. I worked as a server for a couple of years, so I do miss having that type of connection with people. When I became a teacher a few years ago, the interaction with other people decreased but still interacted with the kiddos.

I love this question: “Are you comfortable saying you’re an artist, and not a content creator?” In 2024, I detached myself from calling myself a content creator because I felt I was taking away value to my designs and illustrations. Now that I’ve deleted/deactivated my personal TikTok and IG accounts, I feel more connected to myself and to my art.

Yeah, the checkout line is pretty low stakes. And it keeps some people on payroll, I guess, right? I don’t wanna see people lose jobs to MACHINES haha

Congrats on closing your IG and TikTok!
