I think so too! As an illustrator, I see so many of my peers feeling these things behind the curtains and it’s refreshing to see more folks coming up to share their true feelings.
If you want, join me and a few other creative people on Thursday for a video chat about all this. Hearing people's words and emotions about all this stuff is powerful stuff! (it's also free, too.... just make it $0.00 on the RSVP page): https://lu.ma/wxay6p3j
Imagine if we tracked our creative practice and saw that we spent three hours a day writing. We’d celebrate that, wouldn’t we?
Beautiful point! So often we focus on the negative but it's the positive that brings us the joy.
Focus on it and maybe the negative will lessen it's choke-hold of hustle/multi-hyphenate/all the hats/no pain no gain/ sleep when you're dead/ do or die insanity.
"We’re talking about art here, people. We’re not selling USB cables or homeowner insurance, we’re channeling the divine, spending time in the fog, smelling the flowers, jumping in puddles, and walking around museums."
Great read! Such a tough lesson to incorporate. It’s so tempting to fall into the cycle of “if I just…”. Super important to focus on the things that bring us joy and inspire us rather than just focusing on the aspects that make those things feel like a job.
"Imagine spending more time on things that rejuvenate your soul instead of cosplaying as an overworked social media manager"... that's exactly how I felt when I was contemplating showing my work primarily on social media. I dreaded this exact vision of what it would be like!
As a perfectionist, this is my challenge. I used to respond to my need to try and improve everything with “not my problem” but I like “not my business”better.
I’m going to put this into practice to help me develop my creative.
I love this! Yeah, like... I'm not gonna try and start some flashy new YouTube channel. So like, maybe I don't need to start a podcast either. Or offer courses. OR WHATEVER! We're the ones driving the ship, right?
nailed it on the head
This has been helping me for the past few weeks, just wanted to say thank you!
Thank you for these reminders! Currently reevaluating my relationship to Instagram and these points are grounding me ❤️
Oh good! Yeah, the more we read and discover how other people are dealing with Instagram and social media, I think the better off we'll be.
