// FOUR THE WEEKEND
Here’s four things you can get done this weekend that (mostly) won’t involve using social media.
1. MAKE DIRECT CONNECTION
explains in ‘Stop being 'demure and mindful' when sharing your creative work’ how she tried something new to get people to a recent show:“I made a list of every single person I had ever interacted with that seemed remotely interested in hearing more about my music. Then, I contacted them directly via emails, text messages, DMs and face-to-face. I was going to make sure that everyone I could think of was invited, personally, by me to my show.”
We covered this in our recent Escape Pod Zoom call, about talking to people in person, and texting people about our upcoming events.
And this isn’t just about getting people to your events and shows. Do this for new things you’ve got for sale, a new course you’re offering, or a group Zoom call you’re trying to put together.
Can you think of five people you could reach out to right now?
◼️ JOIN OUR WEEKLY ZOOM CALLS FOR $8/MONTH
Whether you’ve run a small business, or you’re in a band, or you just want to look at your phone less, you’ll probably walk away from our Zoom calls with 2 to 3 good ideas, concepts, and/or strategies that you can apply to your work.
Next call is Thursday, January 2, 2025
2. DEVELOP YOUR ABOUT PAGE
I attended
’s workshop on the subject of About (and “Start here”) pages, then a Substack writer’s group I’m a part of was talking about About pages, so I made a PDF deck about the basics of “ABOUT AND START PAGES” (with some examples) that you can download here.Go freshen up your About page this weekend (on your website and your Substack)!
Also - in the writer’s group we went around and showed off our About pages and got ideas and feedback, and it was a joyous time. Getting together with like-minded people devoted to your craft is always a good thing!
Have you been meaning to update your About page? What’s stopping you? What’s your biggest challenge?
3. BOLSTER YOUR LOGINS
If you still use them, double check and make sure you set up 2FA for Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, and just about every other service that is critical to your operation. Might be a good time to start using a password manager, too. I use 1Password and love it.
Do you still write down your passwords?
Do you have a password you’ve been using forever?
4. TAKE SOME TIME OFF
Planning for 2025 is a given, of course, but you’ll probably come up with better ideas while you’re driving to a friends house or taking a walk along a river. And hey, this holiday isn’t the easiest, for a lot of reasons. For me, this is my first Christmas without both my parents. Hang in there, friends. My DMs are open.
Have a good weekend, everyone. See you on Monday.
