Such solid advice, thank you for sharing it! Last year I started sending thank-you emails to people who'd written/done/shared stuff that'd impacted me in some way - a ritual that had so much substance for me than a 'like' or leaving a row of heart and fire emojis on something! And although I don't necessarily expect replies, it has led to some lovely relationship-building. But for sure the real-world connections have always been the ones that have led to the most enduring friendships, the most transformative opportunities, the connections that have challenged me in the good, needed ways. So: a very helpful reminder to prioritise that stuff, thank you!
When I launched my podcast in 2020, the first dozen or so guests were all people that I knew personally or through social media.
After that, I was able to pitch other guests because I had a track record. I'm now 130+ episodes in! 100% agree about the people you need to be around!
Thanks for the great advice! I’m relatively new to Substack with a super small Subscribers list. Boy, did I need to read this advice today!
I’m an Attorney on an Attorney-to-Creative journey, and I feel like I’ve been creating in a vacuum for much of my life.
I love to write (non-fiction and science fiction) in addition to singing, piano, and artwork. But I’ve known 0 creative people in real life! Prior attempts to share my creative interests have bombed bc my friends and family just aren’t into the same things. It’s led me to years of suffering.
I’m so thankful to have found Substack! And now I’m diving deep into getting to know so many amazing and wonderful Creatives! I hope to collaborate with and learn so much from others as I grow my very small circle of friends here, and I’m excited to see what’s next.
100% true. When I look back, every single interesting opportunity and jump forward in my life has come from someone I know. It's soooo tempting to stay in my comfortable little nest and just mediate human contact through the phone, but real life is where things actually happen.
RIGHT???! We gotta get out, send those emails, go to those events on occasion... CAN we meet people online? OF COURSE! But people to people, in real space, or on the phone, or in a Zoom room... MAGIC HAPPENS. Or well.. CAN happen.

YESSS, sending them and getting a reply is SO WONDERFUL. It's so much bigger than just a like or an online comment. Keep sending 'em!
Simply reaching out is a magical thing. So is friendly persistence. Thanks for more inspiration, Seth!

Woah, heck yes! You've got some MONSTER GUESTS!!!! That's so rad. One guest at a time, one interview, one interaction at a time. Love this so much!!
Thanks Seth- 100%! These days, many guests start as strangers but end up as friends too, which has been a nice surprise

I couldn't agree more. Find fellow travelers and leverage the power of collective momentum.

"Use the internet as a tool, not a destination." YES. Words I needed to read today, thank you ✨
You got it!! It's a nice place to visit, but I don't want to live here (on the internet)!
