Loved this! RE: crafting your own KPIs, I don't know if you're on Strava, but I created a group a couple years ago for people who like to track their elevation gain (in any activity or all activities). It's not a big deal but I thought it might be worth mentioning: https://www.strava.com/clubs/1148977
Excited to be reworking my personal site this year too. It's very much an outdated space that links to other places. A key focus is going to be designing as low-carbon as possible, which is a challenge for an inherently visual portfolio. I've got some fun experiments lined up!
Completely on board with using my website as an alternative to what I'd be posting on socials. I have a WIX website, and it has a blog function that would fit this bill perfectly. Such a great idea.
YESSS. We put all this cool stuff up on socials, and then our website is just this boring old placeholder. At least re-use that cool stuff (that like 5% of your audience sees on social media)!
This is great. I'm going to add a tab on my site and starting adding mini updates and posts there. I don't want to call it a blog though so if anyone has any fun names i would love it
Hmmm because you like to run i think i should
Measure me doing squats and situps just because that's fun and easy
Fully on board with these ideas, especially developing personal KPIs. For what it's worth, the four I try to keep track of daily are: ways in which I practiced creativity, what I learned, what I experienced, who I spent time with. And since social media gives me metrics on precisely none of these, I resort to good ol' pen and paper.
I’m currently working on no. 1 since I won’t be posting my daily activities (lol) on IG, TT, or other social media platforms. I remember building my first website when I was a teenager in the early 2000s. Then, MySpace took over and forgot all about it. Now, I’m realizing how important it is to have a personal website.
Right?!! Those dogs were TOO close for comfort. I mean, they were TERRORIZING me, but fuck - I’m just out trying to have a nice calm run. I shouldn’t have to deal with that.
Exactly!!! I don’t know they’re friendly… also, I don’t care! I’ve encountered 30 years of dogs of all types, chased on the bicycle, situations like this on the trails… I’m just trying to enjoy the park!
Yeah, I know the feeling - just trying to walk to the store on the sidewalk in my city. Too many dog people think they are the "exception to the rule".
and yes to reaching out, majority of my clients have graciously kept me around just by remembering their birthdays or following up how their bird tree backhouse built went.
I really like the idea of 1. I am sure I’ve seen some good Wordpress themes for that, but years ago. I might have a little search over the weekend to see what I can find.

Oh heck yes, I'm in! How do people have so much climbing already by MOnday?!? haha
Through observing this group, I have discovered that people are insane
Good advice! Thanks Seth!
Love that sentiment. Keep up the good work.
Happy New Year, Seth. Loved the interview with Frederick Woodruff, too. Can we clone you guys? :D

Looking to get my website setup (again) this year. Thank you for the great advice Set : D
Heck yes!
Love the elevation KPI and that’s an impressive amount of stairs climbed last year! Are you tracking again this year?
Oh, absolutely, I am. At almost 1,800' so far, and just 98,200' for more to go!

Squats and situps fun and easy?! GET IT!
I have a band and a tattoo studio, most important KPI is happiness of my partner
Glad no one got stabbed, bitten or otherwise!

Yikes, good thing you had those hiking poles!

I loathe people who have dogs off leash who do not listen. “But they are friendly” - great, tell that to my reactive dogs….

Really tired of the C word.
