REPLAY: THE BEST THING FOR YOUR WORK IS THE BEST THING FOR YOU WITH SCOTT PERRY

Sunny. Near record high temperatures. High 94F. Winds SW at 5 to 10 mph.

Thank you Claire Machado, Kyra Faison-Gardner, Kato McNickle, and many others for tuning into my live video with Scott Perry!

We covered a lot of ground on this chat today:

THE THINGS THAT ALWAYS WORKED STILL WORK. Showing up, doing good work, building trust person by person… none of that stuff requires a new platform. In fact, it was just a Tuesday night gig in front of five people before it became some required a TikTok strategy!

YOU DON’T NEED MORE PEOPLE, YOU NEED THE RIGHT ONES! A photographer doesn’t need a million website visitors, they need two creative directors per month. A musician with 220 Patreon supporters and an email list can make a living without grinding or promoting Spotify.

DEFINE “ENOUGH” BEFORE YOU DEFINE “GROWTH.” What’s the business or the work or the art actually for? If you’re clear on what enough looks like (rent covered, doing work you love, time for the people who matter), two focused hours a day might outperform ten hours staring at your phone.

QUIT SOCIAL MEDIA LIKE AN EXPERIMENT, NOT A DIVORCE. Try not posting for three months, then watch what happens.

GET WITH OTHER PEOPLE ON A SIMILAR JOURNEY. With the time you save posting on social media, do an hour long weekly call with some good quality people in your creative orbit!
