Thank you Kristi Keller 🇨🇦, Nieta Greene, Julie Laufer, mary beth kaplan🪶, Lyn Swett Miller, and many others for tuning into my live video.
Talked a bit about sharing our old stuff, and lots of other things that came up from the chat.
1. Growth without social media comes from showing up on other people’s platforms. Get on podcasts, do interviews. Maybe “only” two people subscribe, but you just keep going. And it doesn’t have to be podcasts. It could be collaborations in other ways, like doing collaborative emails together, interviews, live events, etc.
2. Radical growth comes from radical showing up. Doing the bare minimum gets you the bare minimum. That’s just the way it is. I’m not saying that we always have to be outside of our comfort zone, but sometimes you’ve got to risk it for the biscuit.
3. When growth stalls, don’t panic. Focus on the work. Have conversations with people who enjoy your work. Talk to other people doing similar work at your similar level within your creative orbit. Growth isn’t the only metric that you want to chase.
4. Just write it and hit publish It’s practice. Make mistakes in front of 4 people, not 4,000.
5. Turn on paid today, but don’t pile on extra work Let people support what you’re already doing, but don’t feel like you need to create a part-time job for yourself. Let people pay you for the basic thing that you’re doing now. You don’t need to do a song and dance, send monthly postcards, or paywall half your work just to get paid subscribers.
6. You are the show. Steve Vai’s lesson, “I get paid the most.” These platforms are nothing without the creative people filling them.
