In order for your Social Media Escape Plan to work in 2023, you have to grab the attention of your fans.
You’re not just completing with the algorithm, but you’re competing with social media posts that are more interesting, more funny, more fun.
You’re competing with Netflix and Oreo cookies and SPORTS.
Posting “hey, sign up for updates” with a link to your landing page is boring.
SELL IT, FRIENDS. Like this:
So if 100 people see that link, maybe 10 people click the link, and one person will sign up.
That’s just the way it goes, which is why you have to be consistent, and not lose hope.
Post that link several times throughout the week - don’t worry, not everyone will see every one, so don’t worry about coming off spammy. Just make sure you’re posting other things throughout the week, too.
And, yes; we all should have been doing this since 2015.
FOUR THE WEEKEND
Here’s some weekend tasks, due by Monday.
Bands / labels: set up a tour diary section on your website. All those photos you dump onto social media? Yeah, put them on your website. Add some text. Display your upcoming tour dates. Then tell people on social media they can read about your recent shows and see your cool “behind the scenes” photos ON YOUR WEBSITE, which can help you sell more tickets.
Check out Metalhead Money, “a non-judgemental place to learn about finance basics and hash out real-life budget issues -- all with a healthy dose of distortion.” This is good stuff.
On April 1st Twitter “will begin winding down our legacy verified program and removing legacy verified checkmarks.” Got a businesses (record label, agency, merch seller, etc.) and want to make sure you’re verified? Well, it’ll cost you $1,000.
How many interviews, features, reviews, and show reviews have been lost forever because of metal outlets (like Scion A/V Metal) disappearing? Screen shot, download, and archive your press and preserve it on your website!
